Hello.

I am about to replace our exch 07 server, and would appriciate a little info. It is a single exchange server, and will be replaced with a single server.

As i understand 2007 -> 2010 should be fairly simple. Basicly you just install into same organization, and transfer mailboxes. Are there anything i should pay special attention to, before installation? I have raised domain level, and installed what is mentioned on this site: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691354.aspx

How about transfering the san certificate for autodiscover, owa etc.?
How do i move that from the old server, to the new without causeing any problems?

As far as I know, an upgrade with your scenario is not possible at this point. I am in the same boat. Exchange 2010 requires Windows 2008 R2, however Exchange 2007 does not support Windows 2008 R2. You and I are both stuck until Microsoft provides support for upgrading existing Exchange 2007 platform (Windows 2003 R2) to Windows 2008 R2.

Upgrade will be supported sometime this year. Only other way I know of is to bring up another Windows 2008 R2 machine, install Exchange 2010 on it then migrate. Seems to me a waste of resources since the hardware on Exchange 2007 can most likely handle Exchange 2010.

IMO Exchange 2010 uptake will be slow to non-existant until Microsoft addresses this problem.

Hi,
Yes.Migration from Exchange 2007 to 2010 is fairly simple.We can't perform an in-place upgrade from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010.

But We may Install 2010 on Either Windows 2008 or R2. Then Replicate Public folders, Move mailboxes,Move Address lists,GAL,OAB. Configure accepted domains, Internet mail flow.

You may Export 2007 Certificate to E14. Ref to

Sounds like the way I upgraded Exchange 2003 to 2007. In that case the necessity of new hardware was for 64 bit Exchange 2007.

To have to do it again because Microsoft is too lazy or incompetent to allow for Windows 2008 R2 support for Exchange 2007 is ridiculous IMO. For organizations who have an Exchange 2007 infrastructure with multiple Exchange 2007s in multiple sites the upgrade will to too time-consuming and not cost-effective.

My advice is to wait until Microsoft has the good sense to allow Exchange 2007 platforms to be upgraded to 2008 R2, then do the Exchange 2010 upgrade. Microsoft has said they will have Exchange 2007/2008 R2 support this year, so might as well wait.
