Hi I'm installing a new Exchange 2007 SP2 server in an existing Exchange 2000 domain. The install was carried out on a new Windows 2003R2 server. The installation process went fine with no errors reported. However when I started the new Exchange 2007 server it complained that it couldn't mount the First Storage Group mailbox database. It did, however, mount the Second Storage Group public folders database. When I looked, I found that it couldn't mount the mailstore .edb, beause it didn't exist! I tried creating a new Sotrage Group with a new mailstore. The process reported that it has completed successfully, but no .edb file was created. Here is what I did:
[PS] C:\Documents and Settings\pbright>new-mailboxdatabase -StorageGroup 'VM04\Third Storage Group' -Name 'fred3' -EdbFilePath 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\Third Storage Group\fred3.edb'
Name Server StorageGroup Recovery
---- ------ ------------ --------
fred3 VM04 Third Storage Group False
[PS] C:\Documents and Settings\pbright>
As you can see it thinks everything is fine. However there is no .edb file. Does anyone have any ideas??

Hi, You say Windows 2000 domain, what is the OS of the domain controller ? Are there any events logged in the event log ?

Hi There are 4 domain controllers: 2 x Windows 2000 SP4, 2 x Windows 2003R2 SP2. GC's reside on one 2000 controller and one 2003 controller. The only messages I get in the logs are when I try to mount the non-existant .edb files. Interestingly, it does create the log files, just not the .edb. I did read something about DC security policy settings, but that seemed to relate to mounting .edb files rather than creating them. Anyway, I checked and they are setup correctly. Because I haven't found anything like this on the boards, I'm starting to think it's a flaky install. What do you think? Thanks Pete

Hi If you look at the code snippet in my first post, you will see that I can create storage groups without any problems. Running Exbpa does not show anything useful, because the mailstore database doesn't exist. That's my problem...

Hi, Yeah it looks like a crappy install, can you check the AD using adsiedit to have a look if the config is correctly written in the AD?

Hi This is where I hit the limit of my Exchange knowledge. Could you point me at more detailed information on what to look for and how to fix? A bolloxed AD config is pretty much my biggest nightmare. Thanks Pete
