In production we have 1 hub, 1 cas, 2 backends in scc all at service pack 1 rollup 9. We added a test cas server to same organization and upgraded it to service pack 2, rollup 2 with no problem. Went to do this on the production cas server, but it just enters maintenance mode and wants me to change or add a server role. CAS role is check and greyed out and won't let me proceed until i add another role. What gives? Also, in the emc, the successfully upgraded cas server didn't show an updated version number, but had the same build number as the other, non-upgraded servers.

Actually, if I run a Get-ExchangeServer | fl name, edition, admindisplayversion it does show the correct version number, which is 8.2 (build 176.2), but it shows that version for all the exchange servers and i installed sp2 on only one. Don't I have to install sp2 on all servers, or just once in the organization?

Have you attempted to run the cmd line version? I believe in extraction folder setup.com /m:upgrade You must run the update on each server in your org. Have you only run the command on the malfunctioning node? 8.2 is correct for SP2. You do have to run the upgrade AD schema etc once though. Have you actually run SP2 on the malfunctioning node properly yet? I do not get that from your post. Adrian
