Windows Server 2008 SP2
Exchange 2007 SP2

I have a whole bunch'o'emails that aren't being delivered to the corrresponding mailbox. This started when I removed AVG 9 - before I installed Sophos Security Suite SBE 4.

I've gone through message tracking and have found the "missing" emails. They have a RECEIVE followed by a RESOLVE eventid. The recipient addresses appear correctly ... but I don't see why it's not being TRASNFERED or DELIVERED.

All messages match the correct receipient to which I can email myself from a hotmail account successfully - so the routing must be fine?

The missing emails are Mail Delivery's ... and it is only these Mail Delivery's that are missing. Standard direct emails come through fine.

I've tried with Sophos disabled and still no joy.

Can anyone help or advise how I can find further information as to why this emails stopped at the "RESOLVE" event?

Thanks.

Do you find those emails in the queue?

I have fully disabled all anti spam/virus and the same continues.

If I select "send delivery reports to group manager" and add myself as group manager then I get the report for the mail delivery's but not the bounce backs (if that makes sense). This is a temporayr work around with limited functionality for what I need ... I still need this resolved really :(

I don't know exactly how exchange works, but logic says that Exchange is resolving the recipient to the Distribution Group but can't deliver it to the mailbox for some reason.

Are you facing issue only when sending mail to a DL?

Is this an internal mail to the DL? Does the Dl have permission to accept mail from Anonymous, if so what happens if the mail is sent from an external account?

Does issue occur with all DL's, or specific? What if you create a new DL with one or two members, and send a test mail to the test DL?

I assume by DL you mean the distribution group?

These are external bounce-backs / NDRs. The group does already accept anonymous email ("require that all senders are authenticated" is unchecked).

I have deleted the group and re-created it with the same issue occuring.

Sending a test email comes through fine ... standrd emails come through fine. It is the bounce-backs only that do not come through.

Again, this all worked as expected until I removed AVG ... whether this uninstall "broke" something or if the reboot restarted a service that had it's config changed I don't know (is there a way to check or log config changes?).

I guess I'm not sure of the issue yet. Have you configured all external NDR's to be sent to a group? And is that what is not working?

If so, how did you configure this on the first hand?
Is it using "MicrosoftExchangeRecipientReplyRecipient" parameter in the OrganizationConfig? Then you might want to start investigating from there..
