just intalled exchange 2010 standard on a windows 2008 standard r2 server. my server host name is ML1 my domain name is MYDOMAIN.COM my registered domain name (internet) is ABCDOMAIN.COM, I created 'A' record which I want to be MAIL, so I can access MAIL.ABCDOMAIN.COM from outside. I configured owa and it's working fine from outside,i..e., https://mail.abcdomain.com/owa I can send and recieve emails, no problem, i.e., info@abcdomain.com I cannot reach ML1.MYDOMAIN.COM from internet because that's my internal naming configuration, which is logical. While I configure Outlook 2007 from outside (external), I'm putting public ip or mail.abcdomain.com and it asks for the password for authentication and resolves the user name then automatically resolves the server name to ML1.MYDOMAIN.COM I need it to resolve to MAIL.ABCDOMAIN.COM, so that it can work fine. How can i do that. Everywhere in Exchange 2010 MMC I have set mail.abcdomain.com as internet URL. How can I achieve this. Pls. helppppppppp.

Hi aaref; Can you clarify what you mean about "I need it to resolve to MAIL.ABCDOMAIN.COM, so that it can work fine." i.e is your mail working or not. If memory serves me well the mail.abcdomain.com will apear on the Outlook's proxy settings and your server host name appears on the Exchange settings on your Outlook profile. This means internally your outlook will use the server host name to connect and externally it will use the proxy settings which picks up mail.abcdomain.com. As long as you configured mail.abcdomain.com external address on the outlook anywhere settings that should be fine or so i hope.

Thanks for the reply. While configuring outlook for my users who are connected to my internal corporate network, the exchange server name shows is ml1.mydomain.com and which works while the user is connected to my network, but when the user goes out of the office and connects outlook through internet, it doesn't gets connected because I believe that outlook is searching for ml1.mydomain.com which doesn't exist in the outside world. I need it to look for mail.abcdomain.com when it is being connected from outside my network, to do that I have selected the RPC over HTTP option in outlook advanced settings and provided mail.abcdomain.com as my server but still outlook doesn't work and everywhere in Exchange management I have provided mail.abcdomain.com for external URL but still it doesn't work. To play a trick I tried to configure outlook from scratch from outside my network (through internet) by using the public ip or external host name mail.abcdomain.com , it asks for authentication and gets resolved to ml1.mydomain which is my internal host name. Hope I'm clear. Thanks for helping.

The certificate chain did not end in a trusted root. Root = CN=mail.abcdomain.com Is this name in the trusted root certificate on the certificate mmc? also check with your CA about this error.

That makes sense.Copy the certificate to one of your machine and add it to Certificate options on Internet Explorer and test it also make sure the certificate is on the trusted root.
