I have an existing exchange 2003 server that hosts two companies that have always been combined. Now there is a need to separate these two companies, although they will still need to share resources from domain1

Using the recipient policies, I am able to assign a second domain email address to all the users of doamin2. But, when they send mail, it sends from domain1 and I need to have the users of domain2 send mail out of domain2.

I am looking for a very low cost or preferably no cost solution.

In Active Directoru Users and Computers, Email Addresses, designate the address for domain 2 as Primary.
