I have created a distribution group for IT Operations (itops). If I use outlook/web mail to send to this group, it works as expected. However, when I send email from the outside, it fails.

The set up is that we have Ironport as the smarthost. From there email is delivered to the iPlanet server. Each recipient in iPlanet has their mail forwarded to the Exchange system. This all seems to be working well except for when the distribution list is the recipient.

I have done a track in IronPort and Exchange. The smtp flow is fine. The error shows in Exchange tracking. The last logged event is source=routing, event id=failed, the Recipient Status = 550 5.7.1 RESOLVER.RST.AuthRequired; authentication required.

Can anyone help me to understand what to do next/how to resolve ?

Hey!

Go to the properties of distibution group and navigate to the tab Mail-flow, click and open message delivery restictions and uncheck Require authentication.
