robroth -> activesync to both ipad and iphone simultaneously (4.May2010 10:45:54 AM)

A bunch of people here that already are using iPhones have purchased iPads and set them up for ActiveSync as well.  However once they do that, the iPhones are quarantined.  Is there something special we need to do to be able to sync multiple devices to a single Exchange account?  Thanks!

Technically, Exchange 2003 / 2007 / 2010 will allow you to sync multiple devices to the same Exchange account without any issues.

Not having the joy of a iPad to play with (yet), I cannot help on that front directly, but it does seem a little peculiar that your iPhones get quarantined.

There are no settings to enable / disable multiple devices that I am aware of.

I'm getting this email when I add the second device (about the first).  I've tried adding both via command line, but when I attempt to sync, I get another email like the one below:

Set-CASMailbox –Identity david@domain.com –ActiveSyncAllowedDeviceIDs {ApplGB015M11111,Appl88923Y22222}

I checked ActiveSync policies and there is only one and it allows everything as far as I can tell.

You won't be able to synchronize your phone with the server via Exchange ActiveSync until its permissions to access the server are checked. You may see synchronization errors on your phone while its permissions are reviewed. If you see this sort of error, select mail as the only content to synchronize with Exchange and start synchronization from your mobile phone. Information about your mobile phone: Device model: iPhone Device type: iPhone Device ID: Appl889XXXXXXXX Device OS:
Device user agent: Apple-iPhone/705.18 Device IMEI:
Exchange ActiveSync version: 12.1 Device access state: Quarantined Device access state reason: DeviceRule

Aha! It seems to be a new feature of Exchange 2010:

http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/2010/en/us/mobility.aspx

Read the "Allow, block, and quarantine control" section.

The Powershell commands:

Thank you!!  That sure was elusive info to find :).
The problem was solved with the following:

New-ActiveSyncDeviceAccessRule –QueryString Ipad –Characteristic DeviceType –AccessLevel Allow

Set-ActiveSyncDeviceAccessRule 'iphone (DeviceType)' -AccessLevel:allow
