I installed Exchange 2000 onto a Windows 2000 AS SP4 member server many years ago. My DC has the Exchange System Manager installed. I can't remember physically installing ESM on my DC. Did it get installed on there as part of the prep for the member server install?

That's an entirely separate install and doesn't have anything to do with the prep commands for newer versions. To remove you'll need to do it manually.
