Hi, We r running one primary domain controller and one additional domain controller on windows 2003 server. Additional domain controller is running DHCP also. Last year we prepared and implemented two servers for exchange 2007 (one configured with mailbox role and other is running HUB/CAS). Our management wants to migrate both the domain controllers from 2003 to windows 2008 r2 and exchange servers from 2007 to 2010. New environment will be same I mean two domain controllers and two exchange 2010 servers. How can we achieve this goal and it will be much helpful if there any step by step document or article avalibale for both the migrations. Regards,

I would suggest upgrading your AD to Windows 2008 R2 first and then to Exchange 2010, as this method will avoid any potential complication that can be caused while upgrading your AD after updating the schema to E2010.

Well First things First, if you are not sure of the things then i would suggest it to try it in the test environment, you can also do it by virtualization using MS Virtual PC which you can get from Microsoft website. Secondly before moving to windows 2008 make sure you have exchange sp2 installed on your exchange server 2007, as with this sp1 there is support for win2008 AD. There is no in place upgrade from exchange 2007 to exchange 2010 so you have to make transitioning. Meet the prerequisites for exchange 2010 such as your domain forest/domain functional level must be set to windows2008. Power shell 2.0 make sure that sp2 is installed on your exchange 2007 server . Then install an exchange 2010 in the same org on a different physical server with desired server roles, then move your user mailboxes using ex2010 EMC OR EMS. Then take care of your CAS and HUB transport config.[ssl cert/send connectors]. Also make sure your port forwarding is pointed to this new machine. Well i hope this brief summary could help you, you can also search for an exchange2007 to 2010 transtion doc on this site[msexchange.org] Thanks, Sikander Mirza
