Im very nooby with exchange 2010 with server 2008. My main issue is creating a New Mailbox Database. When I start crating a New database I ytpe in the name and browse for the server. It does not find it. I tried creating from EMS. I follow this line from ms site: New-MailboxDatabase -Name "MailboxDatabase01" -EdbFilePath D:\DatabaseFiles\MailboxDatabase01.edb It takes me to prompt "server:" . type in server name and gives me error: Couldn't perform the operation because server "SERVER" isn't a Mailbox server. Did a missed an installation proceedure and I double check ex is running in the services. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you install the Mailbox server role on the server you are trying to create the database on? Take a look at this document. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997976.aspx

1. Under organization Configuration > Mailbox > Database management Do you see any mailbox databases. 2. Is that the only mailbox server that we have. 3. You can try uninstall and reinstall the mailbox role and see if that helps. Bhanu

For a basic and functional Exchange deployment, it is recommended to run the typical installation from the Setup. Typical installs the 3 required roles for an exchange deployment, namely: 1. Mailbox 2. Hub Transport 3. Client Access

Try out the following solution: 1. Open Exchange Management Console 2. Click Server Config in the left pane 3. In the center pane, under the Exchange Certificates tab, click on Microsoft Exchange 4. Click Assign Services to Certificate in the Right pane 5. Select each required service (I selected all except Unified Messaging) 6. Click Assign Check out the details in the following Microsoft TechNet forum posting: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchange2010/thread/c2291cca-c565-4261-82c1-1309f9065d15
