I am trying to install Exchange 2007 SP1 with UR 10 on Windows 2003 x64 Enterprise SP2.
Everytime I try to install the Management Tools and Mailbox role, it fails due to files missing e.g.
dw20sharedamd64.msi file missing in Bin
Scripts folder missing
Setup folder missing
MapiProtocolHandlerStub.dll missing from bin folder.

I seems that the installation misses out files during the installation, if you try installing again, more files are missing!
Anyone come across them before?

hi,

Can you try to install management tool only and see that you are getting the same error?

Try to use different dvd or different set of setup files

or else try to install the role on some other server (test server)

it seems like msi might be corrupted or dll is corrupted or missing.

Or else try to unistall completely and reinstall it back

I have done that, sometimes I get errors with that as well, which means having to manually remove the files, update registry and try again.

A present, I copied the c:\Program files\Microsoft\Exchange Server folder over from another server, then tried to install the Mailbox role.

can you provide the error details like logs details specific to that error and any event id specific to that

I ran Setup /mode:Install /role:MB

I get this error:

An error occured. The error code was 3238230406. Cannot find the file.

I mentions .. Setup\data\dwm.uns which does exist.

Here is another error when trying the Mailbox role:

Mailbox Server Role ... FAILED

Service 'MSExchangeTransportLogSearch' failed to reach status 'Running' on this server.

The service did not respond to the start control request in a timely manner.

Only 3 of the Exchange services will start, the others fail to start.
System Attendant
Information Store
Active Directory Topology Service

Re-running the install for Mailbox role comes up with the same error.
Only option left means to remove the Mailbox role again and restart.
Spent all day on this will no success... :(

The service not starting may be due to the fact that the server is NOT connected to the internet and the services are timing out because they cannot contact microsoft.com sites.

There is a KB article about it, so you need to change config files and update .NET Framework to stop it from contacting the internet: KB 944752. I will try it out with a fresh install of the server and let you know how I get on.

Following the articles KB KB 944752 and KB936707, the problem has now been fixed and the roles can (eventually) be installed ok and services started.
