We have a client that has limited implementation of Exchange 2007 UM with OCS. Support for their legacy voicemail system is ending soon, and they want to move everyone, including those who do not have OCS phones, to UM a.s.a.p. Supposedly it will work with non-OCS phones, but some features are not available until UM 2010 (e.g. turn on message waiting light).

We have just started planning/design phase for their 2007 to 2010 transition project. Someone from Microsoft told the client that they can transition the UM role to 2010 before transitioning other server roles. All transition documetation I've read says the correct order is to do CAS, HT and Mailbox roles, and then do UM and Edge roles. Does anyone know for certain if UM 2010 depends on other roles being on 2010 first?

Thanks!
