'Cannot open this item' random error in Outlook

Hi
We are getting a strange issue where emails sent to a distribution group are able to be opened by most of the members of the distribution group, but occasionally (seems to be completely at random) some users of the distribution group receive the error 'Cannot open this item' from outlook. If we try and open the problem message from Outlook Web Access a blank email is shown. Very strange as I thought Exchange would only store one copy of the message in the database then point all the users in the Distribution Group to this message.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?

Single Instance Storage stores one copy of a message in each Mailbox Store containing at least one recipient. That's slightly different than the way you described it.

Is there any commonality to the contents of the problem messages? Is there any consistency to the users that experience the problem?

Hi

The problem appears to occur at random, the only common link seems to be that only emails sent to distribution groups experience the issue, emails sent directly to an individual mailbox are always OK.
We also get another similar issue, occassionally when an email is sent to a distribution group the email can be opened from Outlook, however on some mailboxes then email body is missing. Again this seems to occur randomly.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

For any particular message, analyzing what looks correct and what doesn't, is there any commonality in terms of Mailbox Stores? In other words, do all users in one store get the message intact (or conversely all in one store get corrupted messages)?

Is there any consistency to the Distribution Lists that are used?
