hi

we are deploying exchange 2010 on windows 2008 R2

with one active directory site expanded (streched vlan) over two data centers connected accross fiber .

cas servers are load balanced using hardware Load balancer .

primary datacenter

2 DC

2 MBX (part of DAG1)

2 (HUB-CAS ) (1 HUB-cas will be witness)

1 HUB cas on VM

secondary datacenter

1 dc

2 MBX (part of DAG1)

2 (HUB-CAS ) (1 HUB-cas alternate witness)

1 HUB cas on VM

my hub cas

if for some reason my link (fiber ) had some issue and it got cut off.

then i might run into split brain syndrome

where my primarry site will get disconnected from secondary site.

another issue is if my 3 (MBX) servers are down then my DAG is down even though my active server and my witness server is up and running.

what could be done to solve the issue of network connectivity failure and /or if more than half of the servers of dag are down (only one which is active MBX server and witness server are running )

what could be the best possible way to avoid split brain syndrome in my setup in case of loss of network connectivity .

( same vlan same AD site but different physical locations

Hello quaid,

Query :(if more than half of the servers of dag are down (only one which is active MBX server and witness server are running

Suggestion: I assume you are using H/W load balancer for CAS Array.
If so, I would suggest you to install MBX role on the HUB+CAS server (do not host any mailbox) and make this server as member of the same DAG. By doing that you can sustain when three mailbox server goes down in a DAG.
