Hi,

I'm currently encountering a strange issue that occurs once in a while as a warning generated in Event Viewer and I'm drawn on a blank as to what causes it. Everything in Exchange runs fine.

quote:

General
The description for Event ID 906 from source ESE cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

Information Store
4996
12540
41
57565
39
17692
45293

The specified resource type cannot be found in the image file

No other errors occur, all Exchange services run apart from:
  • Microsoft Exchange Monitoring
  • Microsoft Exchange POP3
  • Microsoft Exchange Server Extension for Windows Server Backup (this runs when VSS runs at scheduled interval for Windows Server Backup)
Microsoft Forefront Security 2010 for Exchange Server is also running on this server. There are also plentiful resources free on the server (RAM, HDD space, etc...).

Any ideas? Thanks.

From what I gather, Event ID 906 for ESE is memory dehydration during backup: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchange2010/thread/8b5a2dbd-1829-4297-b734-d94708ddef0c

The reason it shows up as "The description for Event ID 906 from source ESE cannot be found" is due to the event ID not properly registering with the machine.
