Hello All,
I am trying to export a mailbox to PST using PowerShell but is is complaining about it has to be 32 bit system. Knowing that MS won't support exchange on 32bit they are saying i cannot use PowerShell on x64. Can somene explain this to me please

using Export-Mailbox

getting this message:
You are running on a 64-bit computer. To export to or import from a .pst file, you must be runing a 32-bit computer that has outlook 2003 sp2
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure what instructions you read before you tried this but this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb266964%28EXCHG.80%29.aspx is pretty clear.
You need Outlook. You need the 32bit Exchange management tools (i.e. you download the 32bit version of Exchange 2007). You need your workstation. You need the right permissions. Beyond that you're good to go. There is no support issue about putting 32bit Exchange tools onto your workstation because it doesn't affect the server environment.

I agree that it's a royal pain in the ass which is why it's not the same in 2010. I guess they took plenty heat and fixed it for the next version. You're just stuck on the red-headed-stepchild version of Exchange.

  • To export data from an Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2000 mailbox, the account you use must be delegated the Exchange Administrator role for the administrative group in which the server resides.
  • To export data from a .pst file, you must run the Export-Mailbox cmdlet from a 32-bit computer that has the following installed:
    • The 32-bit version of the Exchange management tools
    • Outlook 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Outlook 2007
    For information about Exchange 2007 management tools 32-bit download, see Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Management Tools (32-Bit).
  • If you export data to a folder in another mailbox, the target mailbox that you specify must exist before you run the command

In the latest version Exchange 2016, the PowerShell (New-MailboxExportRequest cmdlet ) can be used to export mailboxes to pst. http://www.stellarservertools.com/blog/export-exchange-2016-mailbox-to-pst-powershell/ However, the command is available only in on-premises Exchange Server 2016.

Sometimes default utilities of Microsoft do not perform EDB to PST conversion completely due to certain factors. In that case use of a third party tool can be beneficial. One such globally popular application is here that worked for us in Exchange 2010 server: http://ow.ly/fOz73021ByC

This tool is compatible to all versions of MS Exchange Server.
