Hi Folks,
I will be installing and Exchange server 2010 soon. It's a new small office setup. It's a new AD Forest. No other Exchange servers in it, no migration of older Exchange servers to be carried out.

The setup is a new Exchange Server 2010 and the Edge Server in the DMZ with Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010 (TMG).

The Exchange Server will have the Mail box role, Client Access role, Hub Transport role
The Edge/TMG server will have Edge Transport Server and TMG. Let’s call it Edge/TMG Server

What are the sequence of install steps for the above scenario?
For example install;

1) Install Exchange server with Mail box role, Client Access role, Hub Transport role
2) First install the following on the Edge/TMG server in the DMZ;
a. Lightweight Directory Services
b. then, Edge Transport server
c. then, Establish Edge sync
3) Then install Forefront TMG on the Edge/TMG server
4) Then install TMG for Exchange on the Edge/TMG server

Are these steps in the correct order? If not please let me know and why so I know more about the setup. Anything to watch out for from your experience?

Many thanks
Vinny

Install Exchange services on the Exchange server
Install the Edge server role
Establish Edge Sync
Install TMG

You'll either want to do the Edge role as the first server or the last server in the install..since you're going to use edge sync, I'd install the edge role last.

Since SP1 you have the option to install and configure the required pre-requisites during the exchange installation. Except for .NET... That one still needs to be installed before hand aswell as the filter packs and a number of updates.

If you ask me, it makes installing exchange alot easier. Then again you have a number of required hotfixes which take away that advantage :)
