neeper67 -> Worried about installing 2010 Domain Prep (25.Mar.2011 4:14:58 PM)

I went to install exchange 2010 and I received an error stating that:

"Setup is going to prepare the organization for Exchange 2010 by using Setup /PrepareAd. No Exchange 2007 server roles have been detected in this topology. After this operation, you will not be able to install any Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2007 servers."

I am worried b/c I currently have an Exchange 2003 server in production and I also have an Exchange 2000 server in production. I also recently uninstalled an Exchange 2007 ( this install of 2010 is replacing that 2007 server)

So I am concerned if my 2003 and 2000 exchange servers will be affected in any way.

What impact should I expect from installing this 2010 to my environment?

Hi,

Well you should first remove the Exchange 2000 server from production else this will cause issues. Besides this make sure Exchange 2003 is running SP2 of Exchange.

If this prerequisits aren't met don't prepare your domain.

Regards,
Johan

Hi neeper67,

Before you try to install Exchange 2010, and before you do the AD schema update, you should download and run the Exchange Pre-Deployment Analyzer and scan your existing environment. This will then tell you each of the problems or configurations that you need to address before you begin deploying Exchange 2010.

Once you have met all of the pre-requisites the schema update is quite safe and doesn't impact your production servers.

Hello Paul and jveldh,

I have ran the Pre-Deployment Analyzer and it only found that the "Link state suppression is not enabled on both my 2003 and 2000 exchange servers. Which it wants me to enable if I plan to create multiple connectors to the dedicated Exchange 2010 routing group.

Do you think I still need to uninstall the 2000 server? This tool does not say anything about uninstalling it. The tool did scan both my 2003 and 2000 servers.

You can't install Exchange 2010 into an organization that still has Exchange 2000 servers in it, its as simple as that.
