Ipad - Active Sync issue - 19.May2011 10:32:06 AM

For the most part all the partners and Managers are given Blackberry's and we've never had any issues in setting these up .Some employees have droids and iphones which we could never get to work but since they were employees we never really looked into fixing it.

Now we started having some Partners of the firm buying IPADs to use at conferences and client offices and they'd like to get their emails on it.

We've done an active sync analyzer test and the only issues seem to be..

Attempting the FolderSync command on the Exchange ActiveSync session.
The test of the FolderSync command failed.

Additional Details
Exchange ActiveSync returned an HTTP 500 response.

We're able to get the IPAD to connect to the server and add the account with the users name/password without problems but when we try and look at the inbox we get the error that the connection to server failed.

We're at a loss as to what might be causing this. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using Exchange 2010 or 2003??

If you're using Exchange 2010, please provide the response from the following command in Exchange Management Shell

Get-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory | fl

Sorry. Exchange 2003.

It's an internal server with the firewall redirecting traffic to it.

OWA works fine and blackberry's connect without any problems.

This is the Exchange 2010 forum :)

Open IIS and check if you have an exchange-oma directory

If you do have the directory, go to properties, then directory security and click edit on "IP address and domain name restrictions"

Is it set to grant access or deny access by default? Is the IP address of your server and your firewall added to the access list?

Crap. Didn't notice it was the 2010 board.

There's an OMA directory, not an exchange-oma one. I did go through a Microsoft walk through for exporting the exchange settings into an exchange-oma one but it didn't help the problem.

The OMA one is checked to grant access but has no IP's listed.

Do you use Forms based authentication on your OWA directory? If you do, you need to create the exchange-oma directory with the proper values such as integrated windows and basic authentication being enabled, but anonymous being disabled. I also believe that you cannot require SSL, but I may be mistaken.

Form based is enabled.

I'll go through the process of setting up the exchange-oma directory again and play with some settings to see if I can get it to work correctly.

Thanks for the help.

The device isn't even out yet and Apple has not fully disclosed all of the features. I don't see why it wouldn't work (the iPad runs a modified version of the iPhone OS 3.2 under the hood) but you never know. You will likely have to wait until the device is released before asking questions like this. That is unless you want to freeze yourself over the next 60 days to make the wait seem like a nice dream.
