I have a Exchange 2007 multirole (except for UM) installed server and am about to install my first 2010 server. My question is, by default, will the 2010 server take over CAS functionality or will it stay with my 2007 until I start moving mailboxes?

Depends where you are installing. If you are installing first Exchange CAS 2010 server in your internet facing site, and you provide the Internetfacing URLs etc while setup, that new CAS 2010 is �READY� to take over as new CAS which will take care of all external client requests. Of course you would need to make necessary changes on your ISA / External DNS entries etc .

May I know what are you trying to achieve ? Do want to install a CAS 2010 and have it 'not to be ready� for external client traffic or something like that?

I am wanting to install 2 Exchange 2010 multirole machines for DAG and I also have a pair of Barracuda Networks Hardware load balancers. I want to have all of this setup first, or as much as I can, before I start having my 2010's and therefore my Barracuda's fielding CAS requests.

Ok, that worked fine... I was just making sure as I thought at one time I read that the 2010 would immediately take over CAS operation upon it's initial install of the entire Exhange system.

Installed both servers with no issues and configuring my HLBs now to start handling CAS for the Exchange pair.
