I am currently running a mixed exchange environment of 2003 and 2010. In my production environment, accounts with mailboxes on the 2003 server can not schedule a resource room. The error "The operation failed. An object could not be found. Unable to directly book a resource for this meeting." is received. The same accounts that can not schedule a resource in outlook can use OWA to schedule the resource.
In my test environment, which at one point was exact copy of my production environment, scheduling of resources is successful regardless of whether outlook or OWA is used.
I suspect that I have made some change to the production environment while attempting to correct a free/busy issue.

What is the outlook client you are using?
Recreating outlook profile should fix the issue.
Did you tried it?
