I am posting this because I'm sure someone has already gone through what I'm about to do, and can help with their experience...

From what i understand you cannot move from a Windows 2000 Domain with Exchange 2000 to a 2008 R2 Domain with Exchange 2010.

When attempting to upgrade the Schema on a 2000 DC to implement a 2008 R2 DC you get a message saying that it’s not possible due to the Exchange 2000 server.

My Goal of course is to implement a 2008 R2 DC and install a separate 2008 R2 server with Exchange 2010 on it. Then move the mailboxes with lucid8 digiscope.

Can someone please help me with solid advice?
My guess is that I will need to install a temporary 2003 server, promote it to a DC and raise the forest to ????.
Then install a 2008 R2 server with Exchange 2010?
Then once the mailboxes are moved, introduce the 2008 R2 Domain.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm not quite sure what level of advice you're asking for here. I think it sounds like you want to set up a totally new AD Forest and put a fresh 2010 install into it. It that right? If you need help on that I think you should hire a consultant for two one-day sessions; one day to give you the low down and what you need to get and then a second day a few weeks later to come and actually start you off.
If you want to do it yourself there are articles and YouTube video's on how to do that: http://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ie=UTF-8&ion=1&nord=1#sclient=psy&hl=en&authuser=0&nord=1&site=webhp&source=hp&q=install%20active%20directory%202008%20r2&pbx=1&oq=&aq=&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=74320bbe8d23f39f&ion=1&biw=1280&bih=709&ion=1&pf=p&pdl=300

But I don't know at what level you are at.

You need to explain a little less about what you have and more on how you might want to get there. Examples - do you want a new forest and recreate everything or do you want to possibly go through exchange 2003 and use a technet eval of the software to go through your process.

I'm at a point where I have retired both 2000 DC's with a 2003 DC and raised the forest to a 2003 level.
There is still an Exchange 2000 server in the environment.

From what I understand neither exchange version 2000 and 2010 will know of one another if introduced. So since I want to have a fresh exchange environment I believe I could just install exchange 2010 onto the domain.
I will then create all mailboxes from scratch.... Except, what then happens in A.D??? Can I do what I want to? Or must I move to a 2003 Exchange environment to then move to a 2010 exchange environment just for the purposes of Active Directory?
Point is I don’t care about using Microsoft to move the mailboxes. I would rather re-create all mailboxes and start from scratch. But at the same time, I need to keep the exchange 2000 environment in production until the exchange 2010 server is ready to go live

Thanks

B
