Hello all,
I have not been on the boards in a few years, but glad to be back.

We are planning our migration from Exch2003 to Exch2010. Mgt wants to rent a server and run the Exchange Server 2010 install in our Host facility outside of our company. We have a good relationship with them already running about 15 web servers. Currently we run 3 separate Exch2003 servers at different locations inside the LAN/WAN.

There reasoning for running it hosted is ease of availability without using VPN, better backup routines with our Hosted facility, quick and cheaper ability to upgrade hardware or NAS space, and uptime should one site lose it's internet connection.

I have not been able to find a lot of info on this particular scenario. It seems from my research that it's a little unique. It's not a "hosted" solution perse', and it's not specifically in our WAN (let alone our LAN).

Can anyone shed some light on this potential scenario? While I know its probable, is it wise? I have a feeling it might get over complicated with separate boxes for an RODC, Exchange, Transport(s) server etc.

Thanks,
Kevin

'Hosted' Ex2010 is not uncommon - after all, Office 365 is just that.

How specifically do you differeantiate this solution from a "hosted" solution per se, as you term it?  What specifically will you do differently, and why does this lead you to have concerns?

As I explained, we are going to rent a server in an off-site hosting facility. We are then going to install and run Ex2010 on this box(s). We are going to manage this installation ourselves, including the maintenance and daily administration.

We have offices around the world that will be connecting to this Ex2010, as opposed to a spread out system like we have now.
