Its an old X400 legacy attribute dating from Exchange 5.5 days. It stores the path to objects within Exchange

e.g.
/o=Organisation Name/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=Username

Is it required in Exchange 2010? Is it a required attribute for Exchange to run? Cheers.

Hi,

It will be generated automatically if you create a mailbox for the user for example. And yes it is still used for some things.
