Hi Guys, I'm in the process of transitioning from EX07 to EX10, and have already moved all mailboxes, connectors, and OAB generation (web distribution) to the new server. The only reason I keep the old server online is that all newly created mailbox databases on the EX10 server were automatically configured to use the Public Folders on the EX07 server, and I can't find a way to undo that. In our organization, we have no use for PF, and there is no data in it. This is what I get when I run: Get-PublicFolder -Server Mailserver "\" -Recurse -ResultSize:Unlimited Name Parent Path ---- ----------- IPM_SUBTREE Internet Newsgroups \ And this is what I get when I run: Get-PublicFolder -Server Mailserver "\" -Recurse -ResultSize:Unlimited | Remove-PublicFolder -Server Mailserver -Recurse Remove-PublicFolder : Modification of the root folder '\' is not allowed. At line:1 char:90 + Get-PublicFolder -Server mailsrv "\" -Recurse -ResultSize:Unlimited | Remove- PublicFolder <<<< -Server mailsrv -Recurse + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [Remove-PublicFolder], M odificationDisallowedException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : 1C967232,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.MapiTasks .RemovePublicFolder Remove-PublicFolder : Cannot delete the object '\Internet Newsgroups'. Please m ake sure that you specified the correct identity and that you have the correct permissions to delete it. At line:1 char:90 + Get-PublicFolder -Server mailsrv "\" -Recurse -ResultSize:Unlimited | Remove- PublicFolder <<<< -Server mailsrv -Recurse + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (1:Int32) [Remove-PublicFolder], M apiPartialCompletionException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : F02E63E3,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.MapiTasks .RemovePublicFolder Can anyone give me a hint as to how can this be solved?

Once you remove Exchange 2007 the Public Folder Database will be gone. What is your concern?

Hi Gulab, Can I just go ahead and uninstall Exchange 2007? What will happen with the Default PF database setting of the new Exchange 2010 mailbox databases?

Hi Ron, If you are not using Public Folder Database than nothing will happen to Exchange 2010 database. You can remove the Public Folder Database.(Exchange 2007) Are you using Outlook 2003 clients? Cause if you are using Outlook 2003 clients than you are going to need Public Folder Database.

Hi Gulab, All clients are Outlook 2007 and above. How do I go about removing the PF? When I try to simply remove it by using the EMC, I get an error saying that the PF contains folder replicas that must be removed first, but when I try to remove them using PS, I get an error (see first post...). What am I missing here?

No, you don't have to delete or remove anything from Public Folder point of view. Start uninstalling the 2007 server only if you migration is completed.

OK, Exchange was successfully uninstalled. The default PF setting on the new mailbox databases is gone. First uninstallation try wasn't successful - I got an error saying that "Object is read only because it was created by a future version of Exchange". I had to run remove-publicfolderdatabase -identity "Mailserver\sencond storage group\public folder database" which removed the PF database completely. I then deleted the old mailbox store and both storage groups, and ran the uninstall program again. The second try was successful. Everything seems OK, no errors on the new Exchange server. Gulab - thank you very much for your guidance and patience - MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
