Hi all,
A customer of ours (buyingcompany.com) plans to acquire another company (acquiredcompany.com), and we are helping them with related IT projects. The company that is being acquired uses a document management system that they access via an Outlook plugin. This plugin is used extensively, and it looks like it may not be possible to migrate the document management system in phase 1 of the project. Which, of course, means that we can't migrate email in phase 1. But there is a business requirement to make sure that all users have their primary email address set to our customer's email domain starting the date of the acquisition.

I am researching Address Rewrite to determine if it would help us achieve our objectives. Is there anyone in this forum that has used Address Rewrite in a Merger / Acquisition? What does it allow you to do and, more importantly, what does it NOT do? Any pitfalls / issues I should anticipate?

1. All users of acquiredcompany.com should have their primary email addresses set to <user>@buyingcompany.com.
2. It would be ideal if users from both sides have access to a common GAL.

Migration source (acquiredcompany.com): Exchange 2003 in a single domain 2003 AD forest

Migration target (buyingcompany.com): Exchange 2010 in a single domain 2008 AD forest
