I have a client and I am looking to install Exchange 2010 for them. They have a empty root and two child domains. All domains are in the same site and same network. I will be installing a CAS array and a DAG in the root. I will be using TMG in front of Exchange to proxy OWA and filter SMTP. For political reasons I need to put a separate Exchange server in one of the child domains so they can manage their own users. They only have about 180 users so I was going to put all roles on one server for that domain. Can I have the inbound SMTP traffic come through and host OWA for them with the same TMG server?

Are they going to be using a different SMTP domain for their users?
Are they going to use a different OWA URL for their users?

Yes, both SMTP and the URL for OWA will be different.

Yes you will be able to do so. For SMTP it really has nothing to do with TMG. All you have to do is create the MX records on the public DNS. For each of the records, assign the IP address to your firewall and simply point port 25 to the TMG server. The configuration of Exchange is important. Setup your exchange with 2 accepted domains, one for each of the "companies". Configure your email address policy properly so the correct ppl from the different companies get the correct email addresses but mainly you want companyA.com to be on serverA and companyB.com on ServerB. From TMG forward SMTP traffic to any of the hub transport servers and exchange will use Active Directory to locate the user based on the email address.

For OWA, it is a little bit trickier! Again register your two URLs (lets go with webmail.companyA.com and webmail.companyB.com) to the public DNS. In fact you can register both on the same IP address and have that IP on your firewall. Have port 443 forwarded to the TMG server. Now the TMG will need two different external IPs from your DMZ, one for each URL. You cannot use the same external IP to listen on because TMG will tell you that the a listener for that IP and port already exists! Create two different listeners for each of the URLs and create two publishing rules for OWA pointing each to the different server. (this is all in theory but it should work!)

Could I use two public IP's and create a listener for each?

Yes you can use TMG for SMTP and OWA.
