Hi Guys A friend of mine asked me for some help upgrading his ms exchange from 2003 2 2010. So what i did as they run a server and have VS i created another Machine running Server 2008 and then installed ms exchange 2010 on it. I have run into a couple of errors during the install, and im hoping someone can give me some fixes to it and help me mirgate all email n settings over to the new exchange and decomission the old 2003 services. Happy to provide access via Teamviewer if that is eaiser, during this time of night for me is best as the network/email systems are running at their lowest. Thanks

Can you elaborate on the issues which you are facing? As you have mentioned you were trying to upgrade from exchange 2003 to 2010. Just for your information it is not a straightforward process you need to prepare your active directory first and based on your exchange configuration need to make changes in the registry as well for link state updates etc. Please follow the process given in technet library and save yourself from troubles

A friend of mine has exchange 2007 running on a VS running 2008. He wants to upgrade to Exchange 2010. I thought the easy way of doing this would be to load Exchange 2010 on a new VS then try and move everything from the old Exchange to the new one.... Though it seems ive hit a couple of problems during the install of the new Exchange. Error: The forest functional level of the current Active Directory forest is not Windows Server 2003 native or later. To install Exchange Server 2010, the forest functional level must be at least Windows Server 2003 native. Click here for help... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/libra...&l=0&cl=cp Error: There are Exchange Server Roles (Mailbox, ClientAccess, UM, BridgeHead) installed on domain controllers. Setting to Active Directory split permission mode is not allowed. Click here for help... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/libra...&l=0&cl=cp So i have found where to change the forest functional level and it is set for windows 2000, but im scared if i upgrade it to windows Server 2008 that i will break the rest of the network and it says that i wont be able to roll this back if i make the change :-/ But then i see the second error and i dont even know how to fix that one.... So maybe ive gone about this all wrong... idk Any help would be appricated. Kieran

Hi friend I feel that you need to go through the per-requisites once again Step 1: Prepare your active directory Your Domain Controller should be on forest & domain functional level of Windows 2003and Windows 2003 Native Minimum Domain controller holding your GC should be minimum 2003 SP1 and you should run AD preparation with proper permissions 1) Prepare your Schema 2) Prepare your AD 3) Prepare Domains You may require to perform additional steps including running setup with setup.com /pl as you are running Exchange 2003. I suggest you to run these steps one by one so that replications happens smoothly. PS: All these steps can also be run automatically once you run setup GUI but running these steps individually is preffered Regarding the second error, it seems you are trying to install exchange on DC .. this error is reflecting this only.. this is not recommended practice

Would you be willing to team view with me and help me install exchange 2011 on the new vs and move the data and users from the old vs exchange server to the new one? Think this task is beyond me :-(
