z_haseeb -> What is good for Exchange. ""Catch All account OR Exchange Live"" (3.Nov.2011 2:24:14 AM)

I am going to create an Exchange2010 environment. What is good for my Exchange in case of getting emails from outside. Like is Catch All Account is good for Exchange OR either Exchange Live is good ? like CatchAll account has a benifit, It(CatchAll account) collects emails if Exchange got down and in Exchange Live environment my outside emails will be bounce If my Exchange gets down. Kindly let me know the Advantages and Disadvantages of both scenerios ""CatchAll and Exchange Live"".

Expected environment

OS = windows2008R2

Exchange version = Exchange 2010

Note: My Exchange2010 will be cluster with 2nodes(DAG will have two nodes). Two databases on first node and second node has the copies of these two databases. One database will be active on first Node and second database will be active on second node.

Hi,

You can read about catch-all and Exchange here Why it is impossible to configure a catch-all email address on Exchange

I hope it helpful you to choose right way.

Thanks Tanya for your kind reply. I got a very useful information from your reply. So you feeel that the Exchange should get the email directly. Means Exchange get emails directly. But in this case if Exchange gets down then the Emails will be Bounce . This will be more critical if we compare that we are getting more emails from spammers.

Second as you said that spammers will expolit your domain name abc.com and use it and send unknown@abc.com emails to your CatchAll account. This make your bandwidth link busy. this will also be possible if you use Live Exchange means your Exchange will be busy and bandwidth also be busy in receiving emails(although Exchange will discart later)
