about a couple of weeks ago, I stopped receiving emails on my exchange 2007 server.

after 2 hours I found that the disk was low on space!
So, I slapped in another disk and then moved the storage for exchange to that HDD.

I then had around 5/8GB free on C (where exchange is installed)

today - same problem! Whats going on? how can I move all the exchange files etc... to another disk without having to uninstall and reinstall and reconfigure?

what diags or settings can I use so exchange writes to the new disk? I believe it is also writing to the new disk but not sure how the disk space is being occupied on C. BTW - I am the only user on this and havent sent many emails!

Sounds like you aren't doing an Exchange aware backup. What product are you using and what does it's log report?

Hi.

correct. im not actually using any backups (shock horror!) as this was really just a temp/test/dumb server that seems to be evolving over time. its just me using this server.

the mailbox DB storage (First group storage) was moved 2 weeks ago to the new disk. so thats fine. There are no mail storage data/logs/DB's on the C drive (where the disk space is low)

I dont know what else to delete or rather, move to the other disk.

how can I ease the "pressure" so I can receive emails again? currently I have now 946MB free on C.

is there a way of successfully moving any exchange related files to the other disk apart from the DB's and logs?

Well, if there are no logs or databases on the drive that's full, what is on that drive?

lol

well my friend, 2 weeks ago I cleared up the disk so it had around 9GB free. I would have expected that when I moved exchange/DB's to the other disk that it would be consuming the other disk, and it does but for some reason (cannot find why) the C drive is lowered in disk space.

for now - how can I enable exchange to receive and send emails given the disk space?

Services. What services are stopped. What does the event log say.
If the stores and logs are on drives with lots of space and Windows has over a gig free there should be no problem. Thus the first thing is to look at what is and is not running. Websites on the box for OWA etc. Services etc.

the exchange services are not stopped. only the backup extension plugin for exchange and the POP3 are stopped (I dont use POP3, just OWA)

the OWA does work just cant send email because of low disk space(and cannot recieve either)

one of the warnings for MailSubmission is:

The Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission Service is currently unable to contact any Hub Transport servers in the local Active Directory site. The servers may be too busy to accept new connections at this time.

only 1 server. just on its own. so everytime I try to send an email, it saves it in the drafts. if I try to receive email - no emails and no bounce backs

So that's the first thing to troubleshoot. See: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125177(EXCHG.80).aspx to get the HT DB off the C Drive and somewhere else.

using the nifty https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ - it shows my suspicions as being correct.

I assume that it's telling you the HT doesn't have the space to send email. Did you manage to follow the guide to get the HT Database shifted to somewhere with space?

The hub transport database has got nothing whatsoever to do with mailbox stores. It is a place where messages sit whilst in flight to somewhere else, internally or externally.

interesting. seems like a breach in security on my server - low disk space was being caused by some P2P file sharing going on, some how! *baffled*

still though, would love to move all exchange related bits to the other HDD
