Hi all.

its been a long long time since I installed Exchange 2007. I am also no server expert (but a strong developer!)

I need to know what is required in terms of installing exchange on a fresh WS2008 box?

of course - the domain name.
Install WS2008 and a DC
then install Exchange on a server. At this point is it possible to tell exchange to install and use a different physical drive letter?

After that, what else needs to be done in terms of setting up Exchange, OWA and getting the ability to send and receive emails? I do have the Exchange SSL Certificate I bought from godaddy and renewed it every year, which then I get a new SSL Cert.

in terms of the DC - what needs to be set up and how?

For a DC:
1. Install Windows 2008 Standard or Enterprise server
2. Install .NET Framework 3.5 via Features menu in Server Manager
3. Install Directory Services role on the DC
4. Run DCPromo to promote it to a DC and install DNS if not already available
5. Enable Global Catalog

For Exchange 2007
1. Install Windows 2008 (not R2) and Service Pack it
2. Install .NET Framework 2.0 at least
3. Make sure MMC is at v3.0
4. Make sure MSI Installer is at v4.5
5. Make sure PowerShell 1.0 or 2.0 is installed
6. Apply schema, forest and domain updates to the domain
7. Install Exchange 2007. There are different roles, they can be on the same server but for large organisations so you should split the Client Access, Hub Transport (for SMTP), Mailbox and optionally Unified Messaging onto different servers.

Great, thanks for that.

It's actually all going to be hosted, as it currently is, on the 1 server which is also an AD. yes I know its bad practice and not recommended, but has been working fine for me and my expeiments etc.. - after all, I am THE only user :-P

if I run into difficulties, I may message you - and since you are based in the UK, I may even pay for your services if that is quite alright.
