Hello everybody. I`m having this kind of problem...

Server1 : Primary DC, DNS, Exchange 2007
Server2 : Secondary DC, DNS, Exchange 2007 (Mailbox Role for SCR)

Everything wotked fine, but the Server2 was broken and I need to reinstall system..

OK server reinstalled, Server2 became again to Secondary DC role. In this step everything fine.

But now I want to install Exchange 2007 for SCR, but having this kind of error when I press install...
"The Exchange server is an inconsistent state. Only server recovery mode is available"

How can I install Exchange in Server2.. ? Without brake anything in working Server1
smth like setup.com /m:RecoverServer /role:Mailbox

Thanks!

Youre going to have a WORLD of trouble. Look, Exchange and Schema are VERY VERY picky about the uninstall process.. Id be almost willing to bet that you did not uninstall exchange before you wiped the OS did you!? If you DID NOT uninstall exchange first, then the reason you are having this issue is because it still exist in your Configuration schema. You will need to do some serious research to get every key value that you need changed and it will probably take a lot of trial and error. To start though, you're looking to make changes in the ADSI Edit snap-in console. Your old server/exchange setup will still be in here and it is what is causing the problem for you at this point. PLEASE RESEARCH THIS BEFORE YOU TRY IT!!!!!

When you open up ADSI edit, you will need to selct configuration and your domain. under the configuration page youre looking for "Service" > Microsoft Exchange >"Your domain" > Administrative Groups > Exchange Administrative Groups > servers

Your changes will most likely need to be made here. You are probably seeing data that exists for the server you just wiped and since you renamed the server to probably the same thing it once was... it sees that name associated with this data in ADSI....

Good luck my friend you got a couple hours ahead of you on this one

Thanks for the replies.  I did run all of the domain-prep stuff before attempting to install any roles.  I do only have one domain in the forest so I really don't know why it is looking for that group.
