Question about DAG DB activation OWA behavior - 27.Nov.2011 11:01:36 PM

I've got two multi-role (CAS/HT/MBX) servers in a lab. The servers are in a DAG and I've got two sites so there is one server at each site. Because both sites have users, we've got active databases on both servers. OWA clients point to mail.company.com and mail2.company.com.

I'm testing what happens when a server in one site goes down. I moved the mount location of db1 and updated DNS so that mail.company.com points to the IP of mail2.company.com. When I try to access OWA, the browser says the page cannot be displayed.

What additional steps do I need take to make the switchover work? Thanks.

This appears to have been a DNS caching issue. I've got MAPI and OWA working, but ActiveSync does not (while the DB is mounted on server2 (in site2). It says, "There were some socket errors while connecting to the server". Because this is a lab environment, I don't have access to the Internet and am testing this over Wifi.

What gives? Thanks.

The recommended setting is 5 minutes TTL (Time-to-Live) for the DNS records that you need to change after a switchover.
