Hi,

We are migrating from a 2007 Exchange environment to a 2010 Exchange environment. We are currently co-existing with both servers running. I am having trouble understanding the steps to fully move the 2007 public folders to 2010, whilst not compromising anyone's ability to access the folders as we have users on both servers.

From my understanding, replicating the folders to a 2010 database is not the same as moving them to 2010. Is this correct? If someone has done this before and can send me the steps we need to perform, that would be a great help.

My goal is to get the public folders to Exchange 2010 but yet still allow the 2007 users to use them.

Many thanks,
Sherrie

2. Move-mailbox
3. Move-offlineaddressbook
4. Remove-publicfolderdatabase

Thanks clementrosario. Are these steps performed in Exchange 2010 powershell?

And at what point do we point the "Default Public Folder Database" for each 2010 database, to the default 2010 PF dabatase? It's currently pointing still to 2007 PF database. If I change them to 2010 now, the users on 2010 cannot see any Public Folders.

Also currently the 2010 OWA users cannot see any Public Folders at all.

Thank you.

Hi, I think I need a more elaborate answer if anyone else has done this before? I've added replication to the 2010 store via the EMC on Exchange 2007. However when I run

Get-PublicFolder -Recurse | Format-List Name,Replicas

it only shows the 2007 replicas. I have given it at least one week to replicate.

We are using Exchange 2010 SP1.

I also don't know what move-mailbox has to do with public folders, if someone could explain.

Thank you

Hi Sherrie,

The actual process is
  1. Add  new server exchange 2010 to the public folder database,
  2. moveallreplicas,
  3. forcefully update the replication
  4. check the status whether all the replications are completed
  5. and finally we need to remove the old server that is exchange 2007.

  1. .\AddReplicaToPFRecursive.ps1 -server exchange2007 -toppublicfolder \ -servertoadd Exchange2010
     .\AddReplicatoPFRecursive.ps1 -TopPublicFolder "\Non_IPM_Subtree" Servertoadd exchange2010
  2. .\moveallreplicas.ps1 -server exchange2007 -targetserver exchange2010
  3. update-publicfolderhierarcy -server exchange2010
  4. get-publicfolderstatistics
  5. .\removereplicafrompfrecursive.ps1 -server Exchange2010 -TopPublicFolder\ -ServerToRemove Ex2007
     .\removereplicafromrecursive.ps1 -server Exchange2010 -TopPublicFolder\Non_IPM_Subtree -ServerToRemove Ex2007

I've run the first command (AddReplicaToPFRecursive.ps1) and fixed the problem on 2010 of:

"The store driver couldn't deliver the public folder replication message "Folder Content (PublicFolderDatabase@hillcrest.qld.edu.au)" because the following error occurred: The Active Directory user wasn't found.."

I then resumed public folder replication. It's been over 4 hours now and replication is set to 15 mins, 300kb. There is still nothing - no folder hierarchy on the public folders on 2010 when viewing through the EMC tools. Nothing is returned on the 2010 server when I run "Get-PublicFolder". I thought something would've happened by now. I have logging levels for replication turned to High on both servers. I can see some "Replication Outgoing Messages" on the 2007 server's event log but only for schedule + free busy.

Is this normal? Shouldn't I see something on 2010 by now for the public folders?

Thanks.

If the Servers container doesn't have any value, please delete it to start the replication.

open ADSIEdit

Thanks for the helpful info. I did delete the empty servers container from ADSI edit yesterday. A couple of hours ago, I found that the PF hierarchy had transferred over to the 2010 server (yay). I don't know if it was just a time delay or what as I haven't done anything specific today and my public folders replication schedule is Always Run.

Thank you for all your help. Hopefully it will all go well from now.
