This one has got me stumped.

I have a two-CAS array with a Kemp hardware load balancer.

Client request coming off the internet are routed via NAT through my firewall and sent on to the internal IP address of the virtual services on the HLB and are successfully transferred to the CAS array.

However, client request originating from within the LAN, which are sent to the same virtual service IP on the HLB fail.

Two observations:

Internal clients can successfully ping the virtual service IP on the HLB.

If I direct the internal client request to an individual CAS member (rather than the HLB), then it works.

How can this be?

It is clear that you have a configuration issue with the load balancer. I assume you have configured static ports for RPC traffic on the exchange and HLB?

No, I have not configured static ports. Is this necessary? I have no internal firewall.

The HLB was working fine until I did a firmware patch, so I suspect that there may a problem with that patch.

I put in a service request with Kemp Technologies, but after several days they have no solution for me.
