Hi, I have setup an install of SBS 2008 and trying to configure it as an Exchange Server for email. I am a newbie and please be patient with me. :) What I have done: The SBS 2008 server will be on a static IP. So far I have: 1. AD is setup with domain "mycompanyname.local" 2. Web hosting for mycompanyname.com is hosted elsewhere. 3. During the "Setup Your Internet Address" wizard I selected manage domain yourself. Selected already have one. 4. Setup the POP3 connector to pull email from the webhost, and direct it to an exchange inbox. Current Status: 1. Email can be sent/receive internally and externally. 2. Outlook is able to link to Exchange server "myservername.mycompanyname.local". Questions: 1. I wish to setup RPC-over-HTTP (outlook anywhere), and these are the things I have done: - RPC-over-HTTP proxy is installed - Outlook anywhere is enabled - Enabled basic authentication in IIS But I am still unable to connect to the server through HTTPS connection. Here is the error message: "The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action" Please kindly advice. 2. Are SSL certificates to be purchased? If so, where can I purchase it? Thanks so much for reading and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Change your .local to a .com and you will be fine. You can not access a .local via internet. .local is only for internal (local) purposes, hint the .local.

May I know are there any specific steps in enabling Outlook Anywhere? So that I could check other steps have I missed out above? 1 more question though: Is it considered spoofing if the SMTP email if different from the server domain?

2. Are SSL certificates to be purchased? If so, where can I purchase it? Yes, we order them from GODaddy. Is it considered spoofing if the SMTP email if different from the server domain? No, that is not spoofing What version of Exchange are you running? To enable on Exchange 2007 : enable-OutlookAnywhere -Server:<ServerName> -ExternalHostName:<ExternalHostName> -ExternalAuthenticationMethod: Basic -SSLOffloading:$false To enable on Exchange 2007 SP1 or later: enable-OutlookAnywhere -Server:<ServerName> -ExternalHostName:<ExternalHostName> -ClientAuthenticationMethod:Basic -IISAuthenticationMethods <MultiValuedProperty> -SSLOffloading:$false

Hi jstear, thanks for your guidance, I was able to get Exchange running. :) Everything was working fine, Outlook Anywhere, OWA, Activesync, EWS. Until I installed Update Rollup 4 for Exchange 2007 SP1, I cannot authenticate to Exchange. I troubleshoot by using https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml, or https://webmail.domain.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx They prompt me for Username and password, but doesn't seem to authenticate after I key in the correct Username and Password, and keeps on prompting me instead. Below is the error from https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com. Exchange Web Services synchronization, notification, availability, and Automatic Replies (OOF). quote:
Attempting to test potential Autodiscover URL https://autodiscover.domain.com/AutoDiscover/AutoDiscover.xml Testing of this potential Autodiscover URL failed. Test Steps Attempting to resolve the host name autodiscover.domain.com in DNS. The host name resolved successfully. Additional Details Testing TCP port 443 on host autodiscover.domain.com to ensure it's listening and open. The port was opened successfully. Testing the SSL certificate to make sure it's valid. The certificate passed all validation requirements. Test Steps Checking the IIS configuration for client certificate authentication. Client certificate authentication wasn't detected. Additional Details Attempting to send an Autodiscover POST request to potential Autodiscover URLs. Autodiscover settings weren't obtained when the Autodiscover POST request was sent. Test Steps ExRCA is attempting to retrieve an XML Autodiscover response from URL https://autodiscover.domain.com/AutoDiscover/AutoDiscover.xml for user test@domain.com. ExRCA failed to obtain an Autodiscover XML response. Additional Details An HTTP 401 Unauthorized response was received from the remote Unknown server. This is usually the result of an incorrect username or password. If you are attempting to log onto an Office 365 service, ensure you are using your full User Principal Name (UPN).

Hi everyone. This case has been resolved. Apparently the SP1 Update Rollup 4 was the cause of this. After installing the Exchange 2007 Server Service Pack 3, everything is working fine again. Apple Mail is supported as well! I would like to thank jstear for helping me out. Appreciate that. :)
