I have installed windows server 2008 2 and it has exchange server 2010 installed and running. Unfortunately My MotherBoard got dead and I can't find same motherboard in market. I have taken bare metal backup of my exchange in my portable drive. My question is this, Can i restore this backup to another hardware to make exchange up and running again? previous motherboard was from Asus and now I'm going to buy from Intel but these both have same chipset. So please guide me what to do? As I'm really stuck and my organization are after because our email server is dead!! Plz do help...

I think there is no harm in trying to do this. Try matching your new botherboard chipset and HDD setup with your dead motherboard setup and most likely you ll succeed. Just make sure your new MB chipset does support all features of old MB. In case everything works well, get a spare motherboard just in case so you ll be safe.

If you need to rebuild get familiar with this switch:
setup /m:RecoverServer

Do you mean that you have the backup of your EDB file?

If yes then you need not to look for the same hardware. Just prepare another exchange server and use Lepide Exchange Manager to import mailboxes from edb to your new exchange.

After you replace your motherboard and if your disks don't come back. all you have to do is;

1. reset the AD object for the server
2. reload the os
3. join the domain
4. run exchange setup "setup /m:RecoverServer"
5. copy the .edb files and log files to the old location
6. mount your DBS

I have done this with MS support but it wasn't because of a motherboard error.

see here for more detail

You can review this helpful article describing how to recover data from a dead Server : http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Recovering-Exchange-2007-Server-recoverserver-switch.html

In case above article does not help you or any difficulty, you may use a third party application like Stellar Phoenix Exchange Server Recovery software that is very easy to use and helps to easily recover data from a damaged server. For the demo version and to know more about its features, you may visit here: http://exchange.stellarservertools.com/

Here is one of the best, quickest, and easiest Exchange server recovery software that helped in recovery of our completely failed Exchange 2010 Server: http://www.recover-computerdata.com/exchange-server-recovery.html

A free trial version is also available there !

It's really superb and ensures the safe and secure recovery of lost data in Exchange servers.

Good Luck !
