Hi people,

I have a question about my setup and how I continue expanding it.
It's just a sort of lab environment I have for personal use.
I have 2 Win2K8 R2 Enterprise domain controllers (both with dns) in one AD and one Exchange 2010 sp2 server hosting one email domain.

I want to add a second Exchange Server hosting a second email domain and would like to know what is the best way to do this.

Should I create a DAG with the 2 servers and add the second email domain to both servers (if it works this way) so when one of the exchange servers fail both email domains are still up and running on one of the nodes? I also dont know for sure if I need a SAN for setting up a DAG...

Or should I setup a second Exchange server hosting the other email domain (can I then still have one AD user with email adresses of both email domains?)

I dont have much experience with Exchange, but my current environment is working perfect. Before adding a second email domain / exchange server I just want to know what is the best way to do this.

Molski,

The easiest way is to add the other domain as accepted domain on your existing Exchange server. Then assign people the correct e-mail addresses using an e-mail address policy.

It's not really necessary to add an additional Exchange Server except when you want to create a high available Exchange environment or if you have a large amount of users. But since it's a lab environment the last is not applicable I guess.

Hi Johan,

Thanks for your reply. This morning I have added a 2nd domain to my Exchange Server. I then used 'workaround 2' from this page http://blog.ronnypot.nl/?p=801 so I could also send and reply from the alias/2nd domain using the From Field in Outlook 2010, but then I still get this error when I send an email to an external user and selecting the emailaddress of the second domain in Outlook2010:

�You can�t send a message on behalf of this user unless you have permission to do so. Please make sure you�re sending on behalf of the correct sender, or request the necessary permission. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk.�

Any ideas how I can resolve this? ;-)

Hi,

Did you create an additional mailbox? If so make sure you have send as permissions else it won't work.

Workaround 2 involves a Distribution Group with the email address of the alias where the only member is the user with the primary email address and send-as permissions (but it still fails on the send-as part)..

In will now use workaround 1 which has the seperate mailbox and where primary user has send-as permissions on the alias mailbox.
