Hi Team,

Just wondering if anyone could answer a question I have around the following. Today our Exchange 2010 server mailbox storage unit had a disk fail on it so we had the supplier come and replace the disk.. Hurray all is well!

Then in my mind as he was walking out the door with the old disk I wondered if there was a potential IP issue here.

The drives are built in RAID 5 Array, 256K strip. Could someone tell me if it is possible for the supplier if they fixed the disk (somehow) to get any information off of it or is it safe due to being RAID 5??

Because the data is striped across disks, and has parity information for rebuilding, the data won't be contiguous, but at the same time there will be chunks of data that can be pulled.

Whether or not that data is usable is a different consideration. The risk is dependent upon the type of data you are storing.
