Is it possible for me to send an email using a third party smtp server or at least test to see where the problem is?

This might sound dodgy but the situation i am in is that a third party has a problem sending emails using a third party application. All i have is a to and from email address along with an smtp server name and the error message isnt enough to search on (its a friendly error for the user but no info)

Any ideas?

You can manually create/send messages using Telnet: http://exchangeguy.blogspot.com/2007/06/using-telnet-to-simulate-server.html

The only requirement is that TCP 25 is open from the sending system to the receiving system.
