Dear Friends,

We are using a exchange 2007 SP3 Rollup10 on a windows 2003 SP2 in a windows 2000 native domain mode.

We are planning to upgrade to windows 2008 R2 in the near future.

I want to know what procedures I should implement on the Exchnage 2007 SP3 server in order to do the procedure.

Any comment is appreciated

Hi,
Are you trying to build a new server in your organisation or thinking of upgrading existing 2003?
If you have got exchange on the same server then my advice is to not to touch it, but need more info to check on this before we could tell you what to do.

We currently have an Exchange 2007 SP3 installed on a Windows 2003 R2 machine .

We want to Upgrade our domain from windows 2000 native to windows 2008 .

I read previous article and it mentiones clean installation.

I would be thankful if you give any precedures for acting as having exchange 2007 present.

Unfortunately in-place upgrade of the OS on a machine running Exchange 2007 (and later) is no longer supported! and for many reasons NOT recommended either.

Microsoft's recommendation is to install a new server in the organization, migrate your public folders and mailboxes and then decommission the original server. But since you are going to be migrating, why not migrate to Exchange 2010 or 2013 (just a thought)?

HI ,

Thanks for your response & excuse for my delay as was busy with other issue .
We have the plan to upgrade to Exchange 2010 also but as we want to migrate to windows 2008 domain , so decided to first upgrade the domain to windows 2008 & after everything became stabalized then upgrade exchange also .

We are using all the exchange 2007 roles except for edge transport & each are located on a separate server .

IS there any priority that we should follow for installing the exchange in new windows 2008 server ?

I mean that is it OK for us to use only 1 new server ,start installing windows 2008 ,moving public foldr & mailboxes to new server THEN decomission the old server , install win 2008 , exchange 2007 & assign HT role ?
