MSEDAG -> DC_win08 + exchange running on win2012? (27.Dec.2013 8:16:34 AM)

Hey Folks,

Can anyone confirm to the following?

We have a win2008r2 DC and were looking to bring exchange into our environment which will be installed onto a win2012r2 server.

1. Will the 2012R2 server join the 2008R2 DC as a member server?
Or does windows 2012R2 need to control all the roles?

2. Do have any words of wisdom for us before we start?

Thanks,

1. Yes, Windows 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012 and 2012 R2 can all join Active directory domain on a 2012 DC.

2. I would try to use 2012 R2 servers rather than 2012, to get the best desktop/management experience.

This article can give you a roadmap to add a windows 2012 r2 server in existing windows 2008 environment

Josh thank you for the link it will certainly come in handy.

pjhutch: I think you've misread my number 1 post. Our existing DC is win08R2, I was wondering if the win2012R2 that we have would be better utilized if it became the primary DC. :)

Either way you've confirmed the direction that I'll be taking.

Thank you both for your response.
