Hi All,
When I send to certain domains I get the following error
Could not deliver the message in the time limit specified. Please retry or contact your administrator. <mail.mydomain.com #4.4.7>
Now I remembered this happening before and can't remember what the fix was. I know DNS is working, because I can send to other domains ok. But I still feel it does have soemthing to do with DNS and the destination server blaocking the e-mail.
any help appreciated.

Hi Johan,
Thanx for your reply.
I have ruled out the two issues you are reffering to as I can send to all domains, but hotmail. I remembered this happened before then I updated exhange then it started working again. Also I previous found, then lost an ms article on this topic.
I am running win2k network, with one win2003 server, my exchange 2k is running on a win2k machince.
I realise I posted in ech 2003 instaead of exch 2k, but similar problem no doubt.

I still think it's something that causes the hotmail servers to refuse your connection. You might want to check that the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) for the SMTP Virtual Server is valid. It's pretty common for servers to check for valid FQDN's before accepting delivery. See the settings on the SMTP Virtual Server->Delivery tab->Advanced. Another idea is to raise the diagnostic logging level. You do that by setting a suitable level in Exchange System Manager->your server->Diagnostic Logging->MSExchangeTransport. Enable e.g. the ConnectionManager and SMTP Protocol categories to start with. Also, try to do a "manual email delivery" by telnetting to port 25 on one of the hotmail servers. See the article Using Telnet to connect to Exchange 2003 POP3 mailboxes and using SMTP to send e-mail for troubleshooting purposes for detailed instructions. You could telnet to e.g. mx1.hotmail.com.
Also, check if your ISP has a mail relay, and if so, try using a connector. It saves you a lot of trouble to let them handle outbound email instead.
