Can't from outside, but CAN from telnet? And you recieve that specific NDR from exchange? [Confused]

Hmm...

Hmm...

More Hmm...

Can you try the telnet from a system outside your network? Like a DSL line?

I'd guess you have a gateway system, which is either communicating with a Domain Controller that's not getting your AD updates (BAD), or the gateway is not part of the domain, just a relay server that looks up the user "elsewhere" and you need up update that "elsewhere" with your new users. Guessing here.

Do the DSL/telnet test, that would confirm.

Doing the telnet test is using the same steps as a sending MTA would.

Telnet test success implies that gmail.com or whoever else could also successfully send if they're making a connection to the same system you're telnet'ing to.

Is your MX setup properly? Are the attempts to send from yahoo.com really hitting the same system you've telnet'ed onto?

Futher, what do your application logs show you on the exchange system? Anything relative to this problem?

Also, take a look here. which reports currently the below issue:

http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=axesstel.com

Mail FAIL Connect to mail servers ERROR: I could not complete a connection to any of your mailservers!

web1.axesstel.com: Timed out [Last data sent: None]

If this is a timeout problem, note that the DNS report only waits about 30 seconds for responses, so your mail may work fine in this case but you will need to use testing tools specifically designed for such situations.

if that was the case, then none of the other people would be able to receive email. our mail server is at exchange.axesstel.com

Not necessarily. If folks outside your company send to username@exchange.axesstel.com, then it will work.

What system is exchange.axesstel.com? Is's not the MX record for axesstel.com. web1.axesstel.com is the current MX for axesstel.com.

we have to mail servers. one is exchange (exchange.axesstel.com) and the other is pop (web1.axesstel.com).

when i create a new user on the exchange, he/she cannot receive email from outside the axesstel.com domain. all other users are fine.

Ok. That makes sense.

your external MX record for axesstel.com is web1.axesstel.com. Which means anyone on the internet will be sending all mail to axesstel.com ONLY to web1.axesstel.com. So, if web1axesstel.com does not know about the users over on exchange.axesstel.com, then it will bounce.

Is exchange.axesstel.com a new system? Has anyone on that box received email from the internet before? Can folks on exchange.axesstel.com send email to folks on web1.axesstel.com and vice versa?

Wicked Sweet.. [Smile] ..that sounds like the "elsewhere" I was referring to in one of my earlier posts (posted January 19, 2005 11:57 PM). Glad you were able to work it out!

I know it is a bit late to ask a question on this, but if you can advise exactly how to add a custom recipient on the NT4 server with the corresponding exchange account ? Many thanks
