Guest -> Exchanage Routing Question (8.Feb.2005 1:53:00 PM)

I am trying to learn Exchange Routing with different scenerios. This is what
I would like to do.

Basically I would like my first Exchange server to act as a mail reflector.

I have 3 exchange servers. I would like only 1 exchange server to be on the
internet. I want this exchange server to accept mails for all 3 domains. I
want this Exchange server to accept mails for its own domain and put it in
respective mail boxes. I want it also to forward all mails meant for the
other 2 domains to the other 2 Exchange servers respectively without storing
those mails locally.

Eg:
Exchange1---> abcd.com-----> Do not firward these mails. store them locally
Exchnage1---->xyz.com---->Forward all mails to Exchange2
Exchange1----->pqr.com--->Forward all mails to Exchange3

As you see in the above example. I want Exchange 1 as the only server on the
internet with SMTP 25 open for accepting mails for all 3 domains.

I want Exchange 2 and Exchange 3 to accept mails from only Exchange1 server
configured with different ports for securiy reasons.

I hope I have made my questions clear. Please ask me if you need more
details on what I intend to do.

Thanks

Rather than exposing your Exchange box to the Internet I would suggest using ISA 2004 in your DMZ. It is more secure and is capable of doing all the things you want to do.

There is a book availible "Tom Shinder's ISA Server 2004" that will tell you everything you need to know.

Try reviewing this article. It should help:

Jason,

I do not want to use ISA server. Any other ways?

Eric,

I read the link you sent, Thanks a lot for that. I think thats not what i want to do. If you look at my original post, you will know that i want to connect 2 Exchange servers on the internet having 2 different domains. There is no VPN connectivity between them either. Any Suggestions?????

Thanks

Samuel,

You need to create two SMTP connectors from Exchange1.

One connector will have on the "General" tab/"Forward all mail through this connector to the following smart hosts" the Exchange2 server. In the address space you will have domain xyz.com, with a Cost of "1".

2nd connector will have on the "General" tab/"Forward all mail through this connector to the following smart hosts" the Exchange3 server. In the address space you will have domain pqr.com, with a Cost of "1".

Dear Eric,

Thanks a lot for your response. I have configured it as you said. But it still does not work. I am not sure what exaxtly is wrong. Is my Exchange1 server not able to receive mails or is it not able to route mails OR is it that exchange2 and Exchange3 is not able to accept mails form Exchange1.

I am not sure where things are wrong. What will be my 1st troubleshooting step? If you could send me your email that would be great and I can get quicker help.

I really apprecaite your help.

Any other users, any comments. I would really appreciate your input.

Thanks

Samuel,

What problems have arised after you created the connectors? Do you receive NDRs? Can you post them?

Also, feel free to send me a private message as it will generate an email to my personal mail account.
