legendsj -> First server in org to be decomissioned (23.Jun.2005 8:55:00 AM)

Hi there,
I wonder if anyone could shed some light on the following:

I am currently responsible for a large exchange org +-40 servers. The first server ever installed into the org days have come to an end(server very underspeced) and time has come for the server to be decomissioned. The problem I am facing is that it is the master for all public folders, which we user to a very large degree here at my company. I have set another server in the same site to be a replication partner, but I can not afford to loose any data when this server is taken out of the org. Is there something I can do to ensure that the newer servers take the responsibility and act as the master so that the current master can be taken out of the mix?

thanks

In Exchange 2000/2003 the concept of master PF is not longer present for the folders you describe.

Do the replication and then watch for them being in-sync. You may find that the folders are always slightly out but the item count will be similar.

Gradually remove the replica's from the server you're taking away.

Will be of help in making sure you move all the other roles from this box.
