I was running the RC of Exchange 2003 and the store size was very small less then 30 mb.
Then I was upgrading (Deinstall / reinstall) to the final version and there was no noticeable change in store size. When I added 512 mb (1024 now) extra memory to this server the store size increased to 114 mb growing with a 2 or 3 mb every day. Is this normal behavior caused because Windows 2003 is having more memory to give it in this case store.exe? Is it normal that the store grows a little bit everyday? Like that the uptime will be compromised!

Exchange is designed to eat as much memory, it can get it's dirty hands on, as possible. When/If other programs need the allocated memory Exchange releases it automatically.

No actually not.

But one thing to note, If exchange didn't pre-allocate so much RAM for the store.exe process, you would take a large hit on performance as STORE would be constantly asking for more memory
from the OS.

the ammount of memeoryt hat the store uses is configurable through ADSI edit look in the exchnage 200 SP2 deployment guide it had the atribute that can be modified.

Installing exchnage on advanced /enterprise server also gives you the /3GB switch and with exch 2003 the /userva 3030 switch to not starve PTEs ( page table entries )

Hmm never heard of the ADSI hack, and has never heard other people recommending changing the memory use... [Confused]

You're right about the 3GB switch, but Drallas doesn't have more than 1GB in the server.

Regards

thanks

I'm going to look into this later today, since the server is performing more tasks then mail server, I wanted to have a little bit more control. Initially I was scared that it was going to eat all the RAM slowly away, freezing up or slowing down at the end. After monitoring the server for some weeks I notice that the RAM amount used is stable between 650 700 mb, services & store are the main RAM consumers. I think Im going to read [Confused] a bit about Windows en Exchange consume RAM!
