If you call 1-800-PC-SAFETY and have the KB # handy, they will generally send you a link to the patch free of charge. I've done it several times for other problems--just make sure you reference the KB #.

Just FYI....Microsoft will never charge you to call and simply obtain a hotfix. Tell the customer rep that when you call, you only want a hotfix. They sometimes can send you the fix or will put you through to a Support Engineer. The support case you will have been given can only be used to obtain the fix, any other issues would require a paid incident.
I have heard of no adverse side effects due to applying this fix. It is also scheduled to be included in E2k3 sp1 if you want to hold off until the service pack releases.

hi,
one day after installing this patch, the exchange-server began to remove all emails of some user-accounts.
i think it will do so with all if i can't find a answer for this.
can you help me with this?

i would be very glad if someone could send me that fix.
event id 8331 is spamming my event log, more than 1200 error messages a day with nothing changed at all.
system is xeon 2,8 (one) with HT enabled, 1 GB ECC, RAID1, manufacturer DELL)

I called this number and they sent the hotfix to me within 5 minutes.

I applied it a couple weeks ago now and everything seems to be working better. No more spam in the event log.

MS says the post-rtm store rollup fixes this problem among other problems.
Tried it, but nope... dsclean.dll is still the same version and the events continue.
It will be in sp1 if you can wait (otherwise contact MS for 837444 hotfix)
A reboot will solve it temporarily. Note that the events start with 8144 event "the service threw an out of memory exception" - so probably an internal memory optimization issue in the programming of Exch 2003 RTM version
