I had a very complicated problem and hope someone can help.

I had windows server 2003 standard + Exchange 2003 standard running for a couple of months

I had been doing backup of the information store and system state by built-in system backup till Nov.

Last week exchange stop because the size had reached 16GB. I tried to manuiplate the databaase but failed and eventually the whole database was lost. I then recreate the database BUT I also recreate the mailbox in active directory.

Now my problem is that the msExchmailboxGuid of the users are different from the backup database I guess ... so even if I recover the database to the recovery storage group I cannot use use exmerge to export the data out......

Is there a way I can still recover the data from the backup files ?

Any body can help ?

Yikes!

Call MS Support. You may be able to restore Active Directory from the time of the backup, or Support can assist you with modifying the necessary AD attributes to correct your issue.

Good luck.

This call will be worth the $250.

Thanks...

I use NTbackup to backup system state and how do I recover or view the mailboxID ?

If I backup the current AD and then restore the old AD, copy the mailboxID and then restore the AD to server then modify the mailboxID to the old one, will it work ?

Is there any tools that can view the AD that I backup before without the need to restore it to the system ?

Also I guess I can use Ontrack powercontrols to recover the data but is there a less expensive way ????

Your situation is extremely "hairy". I have yet to go through this in a live/production environment.

As I suggested previously, you should call MS Support. Easily the best $250 you could spend at your current company [Smile]

Good Luck.
